Microwave polarized signatures
generated within cloud systems
The ATM code includes a series of routines to calculate the polarized radiative transfer through layers of hydrometeors. These routines have been used to study polarized signatures observed by the SSM/I instrument over some types of cloud systems. A certain degree of asphericity and horizontal orientation of the particles is necessary to explain the observations.
