Short Biography

I was born in Fuentealbilla (Albacete, Spain) on November 1st, 1968. My parents are farmers, they mainly grow grapes (Cencibel, Bobal, Macabeo, Garnacha, Moravia and Castillejo varieties, that are on the ground of different kinds of wine), cereals and saffron. I studied at the local school until age 14. Then I moved to the "Bonifacio Sotos" High School in the nearby town of Casas Ibanez (1982-86). After obtaining my bachelor and passing the exam to access the university, I moved to Madrid to study Physics at the Complutense University, where I graduated in 1991 in the specialty of Fundamental Physics, and one year later in Astrophysics. From there I moved again to the nearby Spanish province of Guadalajara to begin working on my Ph.D. at Yebes Astronomical Observatory. I worked there for one year and a half until the end of 1993. In 1994 I moved (once more) to Paris, France, to complete work on my Ph.D. at Paris Observatory. My thesis defense was on December 20th, 1996 right after spending 11 weeks in Pasadena (California) to take a first contact with research in that country. On January 1997 I moved across the Atlantic from Paris to New York, where I began a posdoctoral position with the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies. that lasted until Jan/31/1999. Then I moved, this time across the U.S., to join the Submillimeter Astronomy Group at the California Institute of Technology, where I work now.
