His research lines have focused in the study of the Sun and stars with low or intermediate masses, in all evolutionary stages. Specific topics where contributions have been made are: hydrodynamics of gas flows in sunspots, magnetic activity in solar-type stars, determination of absolute parameters of stars (temperature, gravity, metallicity), the study of protoplanetary and debris discs around pre- and main-sequence stars, the detection and exocomets around stars other than the Sun and the spectral analysis of planetaty nebula nuclei. He is an expert in optical and ultraviolet spectroscopy, and the treatment and analysis of spectral energy distributions of stars. Before joining CAB staff, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Physics of the University of Oxford, and as invited scientist at the University of Rochester (NY, USA). He served as director of the former Laboratory for Space Astrophysics and Fundamental Physics (LAEFF) during seven years, and currently is Vicepresident of the Spanish Astronomical Society (SEA).
