Jes\u00fas Ma\u00edz Apell\u00e1niz has a double-major BSc degree in Physics and Planetary Sciences from Caltech<\/a>, an MA in Astronomy from UC Berkeley <\/a>and a PhD in Astrophysics from the Universidad Complutense<\/a>. In the past he was a postdoctoral researcher at STScI<\/a>, an ESA<\/a> astronomer, and a Ram\u00f3n y Cajal fellow. Since 2011 he is a CSIC <\/a>staff member, first at IAA <\/a>and since 2014 at CAB<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His scientific interests lie in the study of massive stars and different issues associated with them: the ISM around them and in their sightlines, the stellar clusters and associations they belong to, and their spatial distribution in the Milky Way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His technical interests lie in the application of computing techniques to the calculation of astronomical quantities and in the calibration of astronomical instruments and surveys. Regarding the latter, his first interest was HST<\/a> but now he has pivoted towards Gaia<\/a> and ground-based surveys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is the principal investigator of the GALANTE<\/a>, GOSSS<\/a>, Villafranca<\/a>, MONOS<\/a>, LiLiMaRlin<\/a> and CollDIBs <\/a> surveys and participates in several others. He is the author of CHORIZOS<\/a> y Marxist Ghost Buster<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
