Título: Massive Stars as Drivers of the Galactic Ecosystem
Resumen: Massive stars - weighing at least 8 times more than the Sun - are very rare, but very important. Their hot, dense cores are where many of the heavy elements we know and rely on are made; their incredible luminosity makes them cosmic beacons visible over huge distances and enables them to illuminate and sculpt the dust and gas clouds in star formation regions; and they end their lives in spectacular supernova explosions. I will give the audience an overview of the birth, life, and death of massive stars and also give a brief overview of my own research on the radiation-driven winds and associated X-ray emission of these important astronomical objects.
