Study of the biodiversity, ecology, evolution and molecular mechanisms of adaptation of microorganisms and microbial populations in environments of astrobiological interest.

The group's objectives are:

  • Physico-chemical characterisation of terrestrial environments of astrobiological interest.
  • Identification of prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms in these environments and study of their diversity and ecology.
  • Isolation of micro-organisms of astrobiological and/or biotechnological interest.
  • Identification of molecules and molecular mechanisms that allow micro-organisms to adapt to their environment.
  • Mechanisms of microbial adaptation and evolution.
  • Model proposal.

Las principales técnicas que utilizamos en el laboratorio:

  • Optical, fluorescence, confocal and electron microscopy.
  • Nucleic acid sequencing. Genomics, metagenomics and metatranscriptomics.
  • Identification of molecules (metabolites, enzymes, pigments, etc.) by chromatography, electrophoresis and western blotting with specific antibodies.
  • Identification of molecules and molecular mechanisms that allow micro-organisms to adapt to their environment.
  • Proteomics and metaproteomics.
  • Bioinformática y bioestadística.
