Four missions are planned to depart from Earth this year with their destination set to planet Mars. Three of them would reach the Martian surface a few months later. Why were those destinations chosen? What do we expect to learn fro the new exploration sites? Are they that different from where we have landed before on Mars? Here, we will go through the technical and scientific details about the upcoming Mars missions, with particular focus on the geologic settings of the NASA’s Mars2020 and ESA’s ExoMars landing sites.
