Head of Department

Dr Sebastián is PhD Electronic engineering, Universidad de Alcalá (Spain) and Diploma in Industrial Technical Engineering in 1997, and degree in Electronic Engineering in 1999 at the Higher Polytechnic School of UAH, received the Second National Award in Technical Engineering. In 2005 he obtained the title of Doctor for the UAH in the program “Multisensory recruitment and robotic system”.

In 1996, he began his research career in the Electronic Department of the UAH, with various pre-doctoral fellowships and FPI focused on the field of robotics and electronic instrumentation. He joined the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA) in 2002, and began a stage in which he specialized in the design of space instruments for planetary missions. At present, he belongs to the scale of Científico Titular de OPI, being currently Head of the CAB-INTA Advance Instrumentation Department. He was a Part time Assistant Professor at the University of Alcalá between 2017 and 2012, teaching five subjects in the area of Electronic Technology.

He has participated so far in 22 research projects / contracts mainly in the conception, design and modelling of spatial scientific instruments (MEDA, TWINS, REMS of NASA’s InSight and MSL missions, SOLID, or MARTE). As result of participating in these projects, he has received two Group Achievement Awards from NASA carried out training tasks for pre-doctoral research personnel. This work as a researcher has led to 20 publications in international journals indexed in the JCR, 2 book chapters, more than 60 papers in national and international conferences, technological reports, three patents extended to various countries, and various stays in research centers as NASA Ames Research Center and Jet Propulsion Laboratory of the California Institute of Technology.
